Overview
BT Tradespace is an online community incorporating a business directory and marketplace. On its site you can buy and sell products and services, find a business and network with other like-minded individuals. Unlike a conventional business directory, BT Tradespace members can use social media tools such as blogs, photos, videos and podcasts to promote their products and services. For prospective customers, it provides the opportunity to get to know a business before buying from them.
Brief
Clarity International was asked to develop and manage a Second Life island that would allow BT Tradespace SMEs to use the virtual world for retail and conferencing abilities. Second Life is a three dimensional online virtual world and now has over 10 million registered members with over 1 million regular visitors. It even has its own currency - Linden dollars - and thousands of individuals and businesses around the world are already making real money running business in Second Life. Many household brands such as BBC, Reuters, Dell and Calvin Klein already have a presence in Second Life in recognition of the growing market potential.
Outcome
We built the Second Life island with 6 distinct sections, each having their own specific objectives:
BT Tradespace landing area, providing welcome and networking opportunities
Orientation and Training area
Souk Area
Art Gallery
Country Fair
IT Area with coffee shop

At the time of writing, we are running a full user trial. We will give SMEs their own virtual presence in one of the four customer zones on the Island for five days during the trial. Visitors to the island will be able to explore SMEs businesses in three dimensions and will be able to contact them in Second Life and via the more traditional methods of phone, SMS and email.
If you are interested and would like more details about the trial visit Second Life Tradespace site.
